Start with a standard recipe of
1L Water (distilled preferable)
20g Agar
14.5g LME
1g yeast (optional)
Combine Ingredients
Place all dry ingredients into a small plastic bowl.
Heat Water
Boil 1 liter of water.
Prepare Media Bottle
Drop a stir bar into the media bottle.
Place the media bottle on the stir plate.
Add Initial Water
Using a stainless steel funnel, carefully pour half of the boiling water into the media bottle.
Turn on the stir plate to create strong water movement.
Add Ingredients
Transfer the dry ingredients from the bowl into the media bottle through the funnel.
Ensure the stir bar continues spinning and is not disturbed.
Collect Residual Ingredients
Add a small amount of hot water to the bowl, swirl to gather any remaining ingredients, and pour into the media bottle.
Fill to Capacity
Add the remaining boiling water until the media bottle reaches the desired volume.
(Optional) Add food coloring for visual reference.
Mix Thoroughly
Allow the stir plate to run for several minutes, or until no visible sediment remains.
Prepare for Sterilization
Place the lid on the media bottle, finger-tight.
Securely cover the lid with aluminum foil.
Sterilize
Pour 3L of water into the pressure cooker.
Place the media bottle into the pressure cooker on top of some raised platform / trivet so the water isn’t touching the bottles.
Bring the cooker to 15 PSI and maintain the required sterilization time.
Let the pressure cook pressure cook 25-30 minutes.
Once that is done, allow the pressure cooker to depressurize naturally.
